Textbooks and class list for Davy College is here! It looks a lot like last years, with a few extra additions. If you’ve kept up with my adventures in becoming a self-taught fashion designer, you already know I fell behind last year in a few areas. I mainly kept up with sewing, but even that got a little lost in the hustle and bustle of life. This year I’m going to pick up where I left off in 2015. My weekly schedule will look a little different this time around. Instead of one night of sewing each week, I will be sewing three to four nights one week and the next week I’ll be reading/studying/sketching. My main focuses this year (for spring and fall) are construction, pattern making, and sketching. Anyone else trying to improve in these areas, or just wanting to learn about them in general? I personally would love to see some significant growth in these areas come December. Also, if you haven’t seen it, my 2016 (spring) make nine list can be found here. Now on to the classes and textbooks!
Textbooks:
Fashion: From Concept to Consumer
Professional Sewing Techniques for Designers
Classes:
Mastering Construction: Foundation Techniques
Design & Sew an A-Line Skirt – I may move this one to fall, but for now I have hopes of at least taking the class, even if I can’t get to the skirt just yet.
So these are the materials I’ll be using this spring along with all my sewing plans. One thing I tried last year was to give myself final projects/exams due at the end of the “semester”. I didn’t follow through, but maybe if I tell all of you and schedule a blog post for it, I’ll be more determined to work hard and make these plans a reality. Feel free to keep me accountable. I’ll return the favor if needed! I’m truly excited to see where this year takes me. What are your plans/goals or areas you’d love to see some progress?

I’m so glad to see you’re sticking with it! Maybe I’ll join you and sign up for those classes, too. I want to learn how to make my own patterns as well.

That would be awesome! I’ll start the construction one in February and I’m guessing the pattern one in March. Let me know if you decide to take one!
